SUMMER SCHOOL
The Summer School in Food Security and Climate Change is a yearly activity under the Master of Science in Food Security and Climate Change (MS FSCC) project funded by the European Commission’s ERASMUS + Capacity Building for Higher Education and the Southeast Asian University Consortium for Graduate Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC). This summer school serves as enhancement courses for the MS FSCC where students will experience a series of interactive lectures, discussions, group work, and field visits which will strengthen their knowledge and understanding on the threats to agriculture and food security in a changing climate. The first MS FSCC summer school was conducted last year at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A total of 37 students from 12 countries participated in the programme. This year’s MS FSCC summer school will be held at Universiti Putra Malaysia from 14–28 July 2018. It will be co-organized with the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), Austria and Universitas Gadjahmada (UGM), Indonesia.
Keeping to the theme of this year’s summer school, “OIL PALM - CATTLE INTEGRATION: A TRANSITION TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY”, students will be exposed to various activities on social, economic and environmental sustainability of crop-animal integration in farming systems. Throughout this 2 weeks programme, students will experience the interaction between food systems and their ecological, social and economic dimensions in terms of global changes as well as becoming agents of change for sustainability.
Whether you're focused on your self-improvement, on your academic future, or on your professional career, this summer school has so much to offer. Students will be exposed to the real-life educational opportunity like field trip and excursion and will also experience the highly interactive study environment during the seminar.
